FORMER SOUTH KOREAN PRESIDENT CHARGED WITH 18 OFFENCES IN SAMSUNG SCANDAL

19 April 2017

South Korean prosecutors have indicted former President Park Geun-hye on 18 charges, including bribery and coercion, over the corruption scandal surrounding Samsung’s leader, Lee Jae-yong.

Prosecutors allege 48-year-old Mr Lee used more than £30m of Samsung funds to bribe the former President to ensure an easy leadership transition at the company after his father’s heart attack in 2014.

Lee has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Whatever the outcome for him and the former President, the fall-out from the scandal is a high-profile warning about the dangers companies face if they fail to prevent bribery.
