GlaxoSmithKline bribery scandal in China

5 March 2015

The GlaxoSmithKline bribery scandal in China has led to a 13-fold increase in the number of whistle-blowers in the company’s Chinese operation.

China’s 15-month investigation into allegations that the drugs company bribed doctors to use its products led to GSK receiving 652 whistle-blower reports from its Chinese staff in 2014; compared with 48 in 2013.

The company believes the increased whistleblowing is linked directly to the bribery investigation; which led to suspended prison sentences for senior staff and a £300M fine.
