Angelika Hellweger Spoke at IBA Asset Recovery Conference in Vienna

Angelika Hellweger was invited to be a key speaker at the inaugural International Bar Association Asset Recovery Conference.

Angelika gave a speech entitled “Monetising awards and judgments against sanctioned states and entities” at the conference on December 8th.

She examined the effect that recent waves of sanctions have had on client representation, dispute resolution – including arbitration – and enforcement.

The conference, which ran from December 6th to 8th, was held at the Palais Hansen Kempinski Hotel in Vienna.

It analysed asset recovery issues, including:

• Ingredients of a multi-faceted asset recovery strategy.
• How to obtain evidence in challenging situations.
• Tracing, recovering and preserving unique and difficult classes of assets.
• The case for an international model law on asset recovery.
• The rights and role of victims in asset recovery and third-party interference.
• State immunity from an asset recovery perspective.

Angelika was joined in her session at the conference by fellow speakers Rachel Cropper-Mawer of Clyde & Co, London; Andreas Pollak of Petsche Pollak, Vienna; and Jacques-Alexandre Genet of Archipel, Paris. The session moderator was Paul Hughes of Kobre & Kim, Dubai.
