Two Edinburgh City Council staff have pleaded guilty to receiving tens of thousands of pounds in bribes from a building company’s workers.
Charles Owenson, 62, and 44-year-old James Costello received bribes from two members of ABC Limited and awarded the Edinburgh company contracts to maintain city council buildings between 2006 and 2010.
Both have pleaded guilty to breaching the 1989 Public Bodies Corrupt Practices Act and to fraud and proceeds of crime charges.
Prosecutors told the court that the bribery involved an elaborate and complex series of arrangements that would take a full day to explain. The court heard that Owenson and Costello were paid £42,521 and received hospitality worth £30,249.
