Author: Dr. Angelika Hellweger 4 July 2023
An analysis by Angelika Hellweger of the latest amendment to the Russia (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 outlines the key measures, the reasons for its introduction and the impact it will have on law firms.
In her analysis, which was first published by LexisNexis, Angelika explains that the new trade restrictions state that a person must not directly or indirectly provide ‘legal advisory services’ to any non-UK person in relation to, or in connection with, any activity which would be prohibited by the Russia Regulations if done by a UK person or carried out within the UK.
Angelika details the scope of the restrictions’ impact and the exceptions that are in place. She also describes developments leading up to the latest restrictions and the reasons why they have been introduced by the UK government.
Her analysis also includes advice on how lawyers and legal firms can ensure they fully comply with the latest amendment.
