Angelika Hellweger wrote about the significance of the National Crime Agency’s amber alert relating to the art storage sector.
In her piece, which has been published by TL4 FIRE magazine, Angelika explains the factors that prompted the NCA to issue the alert and the challenges it presents. She says that scrutiny of the art world has intensified since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The NCA’s “Amber Alert: Financial Sanctions Evasion, Money Laundering & Cultural Property Trafficking Through the Art Storage Sector’’ needs to be viewed, according to her, as a warning to those in the sector to be aware of the wide range of offences that can be committed in the art world.
Angelika highlights the illegal practices that can occur in the art sector and the checks that should be performed to identify and prevent wrongdoing.
