When it comes to ancient artefacts, documents that prove their provenance are of vital significance.
That was explained by Angelika Hellweger in an article that was published by The Expert Witness.
In her piece, she outlines the case of Qatar Investment and Projects Development Holding Co v Phoenix Ancient Art S.A. &Ors [2025] EWHC 898 (KB). In this case, the defendants’ defence was struck out as they failed to comply with their disclosure obligations, meaning the claimants could not properly pursue their claims.
The judge took what Angelika called “the draconian step’’ to strike out the defence and award summary judgement to the claimants.
