Angelika Hellweger Explains the Challenges Posed by the Use of AI in Financial Crime

How artificial intelligence (AI) is used by those looking to commit financial crime was detailed by Angelika Hellweger.

In an article published by LexisNexis, Angelika outlines how AI can be used to automate “old” fraud schemes and the extent to which it can be used to create fake documents, identities, images, videos and conversations. She emphasises its ability to outwit both people and software designed to detect the threat of financial crime.

Angelika also considers the issues this raises for the law. She says that while many existing laws can be applied to the misuse of AI, some of the AI threats will need a new regulatory framework.
