Angelika Hellweger outlines how bribery can be tackled in sport

With Spanish football club Barcelona facing a trial over bribery allegations, Angelika Hellweger wrote about how sport can identify and prevent bribery.

In her piece, which was published by Solicitors Journal, Angelika details the case against Barcelona and the implications for its future.

She emphases the need for sporting clubs to devise and implement measures to prevent - and improve the detection and reporting of - bribery, corruption and other forms of wrongdoing.

The measures she outlines include codes of conduct, job rotation and/or limitations on terms of office, specialised units to investigate suspected wrongdoing, staff education and training, methods of ensuring confidential reporting and systems for nominating referees a short time before a competition.
