Aziz Rahman and Angelika Hellweger have provided one of the expert analysis chapters for the International Comparative Legal Guide - Sanctions 2025.

Their chapter, which is called “Investigations and enforcement across the main sanctions jurisdictions – and the right response to them’’, details the UK’s sanctions legal framework and how it is enforced. It also explains the approach taken by the European Union and the United States to sanctions enforcement.

Aziz and Angelika emphasise how important it is to devise the right response to a sanctions investigation. They warn that, as cases will differ, it would be wrong to take exactly the same course of action in each investigation.

They provide advice on cooperating with sanctions investigators and on self-reporting any problems. They also outline the best practice measures that can be employed to reduce the possibility of any sanctions-related issues arising that could lead to an investigation.
