The Times asked for Aziz Rahman’s assessment of the Supreme Court quashing the Euribor and Libor manipulation convictions of traders Carlo Palombo and Tom Hayes.
Aziz explained that the ruling was “far from an out-and-out destruction of the case against the two men.’’
He added: “While the Supreme Court answered some questions, it left a lot unresolved as regards what could and should have been adequate to secure safe convictions in these circumstances.
“Until this is known, it would be hard to predict with any degree of certainty what may happen to those who seek a similar result to that enjoyed by Hayes and Palombo.
“Neither the markets nor the courts have come out of this covered in glory — and both may do well to reflect on safeguarding against similar results in future.”
