Author: Dr. Angelika Hellweger 4 August 2022
Rahman Ravelli’s Dr. Angelika Hellweger is one of the authors of a just-published article on cyber exploitation.
She is one of four authors of the article “Exploring Legal Accountability of Global Technology and Social Media Companies for the Cyber Exploitation and Online Human Trafficking of Yezidis and other Minorities by ISIS’’. It is included in the Journal of Human Trafficking, Enslavement and Conflict-Related Sexual Violence.
The article assesses the legal and regulatory challenges that are emerging due to the rise of unregulated global technology. It explains the challenges this presents for national and international lawmakers as they seek to address online health, safety and security issues such as discrimination, harassment and violence, human trafficking and cyber sexual exploitation; particularly regarding vulnerable populations living in conflict zones.
Angelika wrote it with Emmanuel Didier, Robert Jeffrey Powell and Catherine van Kampen who, like Angelika, work as pro bono legal advisors for the Yazidi Legal Network and for NL Helpt Yezidis.
