FOUNDERS OF PANAMA PAPERS LAW FIRM ARRESTED AND BAILED IN CORRUPTION INVESTIGATION 15 February 2017 1 year ago Heads of the law firm at the centre of the Panama Papers scandal have been denied bail, following their arrest over Brazilian corruption allegations. The two founders of Panama-based Mossack Fonseca were detained following allegations they played a part in the scandal known as Lava Jato; which involved the laundering of political bribes worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Defence lawyers for Jürgen Mossack and Ramón Fonseca confirmed they will remain in custody. Two other employees of the firm are also believed to be under investigation. Mr Fonseca’s lawyer has described the evidence against his client as “weak’’. Media reports in Panama say the men are set to be charged with money laundering. Whatever the country and whatever the profession, everyone has to be wary of the risk of money laundering.
