Jenna Clift co-authors chapter in jurisdiction and immunities handbook

Jenna Clift is one of the authors of a chapter in the just-published second edition of the Research Handbook on Jurisdiction and Immunities in International Law.

Her chapter, entitled “Shared foundations and conceptual differentiation in immunities from jurisdiction’’, builds on the original contribution by Professor J. Craig Barker, former Dean of the School of Law and Social Sciences and Professor of International Law at London South Bank University. It offers a revised and updated analysis for this new edition. 

The chapter examines the complex landscape of immunities in international law, explores the foundations underpinning different forms of immunity and argues for a refined understanding of their distinctions. It also considers how certain forms, particularly state immunity, may be more open to challenge than others.

The handbook, edited by Professor Alexander Orakhelashvili of the University of Birmingham School of Law, includes recent developments in legislation and case law. It features contributions from leading experts, scholars and practitioners on topics such as the concept of universal jurisdiction and immunity claims in various types of judicial proceedings.
