Rahman Ravelli’s ongoing growth plans have seen it appoint Joshua L. Ray to spearhead its expanding trans-Atlantic caseload.
The firm has taken on Ray as Legal Director and Counsel as part of a planned series of appointments to meet increased demand from corporates, senior business figures and high net worth individuals. He will be responsible for much of Rahman Ravelli’s US-based work, having split his career so far between London and the States.
Aziz Rahman, Rahman Ravelli’s Senior Partner and founder, said US-qualified Ray’s attributes were exactly what the firm requires as it workload grows.
He added: “We are in the process of creating a team specifically to handle US-facing work for UK and international clients. Josh has exactly the experience and the abilities that we are looking to attract. Like ourselves, he wants to make a difference and we are pleased that he shares our goals.
“When it comes to white-collar crime, Josh has the top-level expertise we were seeking. He has worked on many major international cases and has the experience of working in different jurisdictions.
“He is focused and has a drive and dynamism in everything he does. His mastery of facts and the law and his ability to think outside of the box to solve problems ensure that every client receives the strongest and best representation.’’
Ray arrives having been involved in many notable global corporate investigations of the past decade; including this year’s conclusion of the multinational Airbus bribery investigation. He has represented individual and corporate clients in numerous complex cross-border investigations involving allegations of fraud, bribery, sanctions violations and money laundering.
He will be working with multinational firms with exposure to the US’ Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the UK’s Bribery Act and with US and international corporates on a wide range of US-facing criminal and regulatory defence practice work. His role will also see him advise both general counsel and individuals with large asset portfolios in relation to issues such as compliance and market manipulation.
He said: “It is pretty clear to me that Rahman Ravelli has a growing international reputation, an impressive caseload and a track record of delivering for clients when the stakes are high. I like the direction that the firm is going in.
“Becoming a part of this is an exciting challenge that I am delighted to accept.’’
Aziz Rahman added: “With the demand for our services increasing and our planned expansion continuing at pace, bringing Josh on board was a logical step forward. We intend to bring in others of equally high calibre to ensure we continue to meet the requirements of current and future clients.’’
