The successful acquittal secured by Rahman Ravelli Legal Director Syedur Rahman’s team in the high-profile Guralp Systems trial led to him being chosen by The Law Society Gazette as its Lawyer in the News.
The article, which was published on January 20, outlined how Syed successfully defended Guralp’s head of sales Natalie Pearce in the trial that ended in December. She and two other senior figures had been charged with conspiracy to make corrupt payments.
In the Gazette’s article, Syed gives his thoughts on the case, which saw all three defendants acquitted after the company had admitted wrongdoing as part of a deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) with the Serious Fraud Office. Syed states that his client’s acquittal raises questions about the integrity of the DPA process. He is also critical of the fact that the DPA containing his client’s name could be published after she had been cleared of all wrongdoing.
His career highs and lows and reasons for wanting to become a lawyer are also detailed in the feature, which can be read here.
