With the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) looking to combat unauthorised and misleading financial websites, Rahman Ravelli consider the challenge the regulator faces.
In a piece published by Wealth Briefing, they detail the scale of the problem and the action that the FCA has taken in an attempt to reduce it.
But while Rahman Ravelli acknowledges the FCA’s achievements in this area, they emphasise the criminal cunning and opportunism of those the FCA is looking to crack down on.
They argue that many of those running such operations may go undetected as they are “keen to stay out of the FCA’s line of vision’’. Even if they are tackled by the FCA, “many will go back to doing exactly what prompted the FCA to take action.’’
Rahman Ravelli concludes that the problems may be best addressed by taking an approach “that doesn’t pin all responsibility on the FCA.’’
