/ News / Niall Hearty Assesses the Legal Issues facing the Gambling Sector
With the owner of bookmakers Coral and Ladbrokes set to be fined over bribery allegations, Niall Hearty wrote about the legal challenges facing the gambling sector.
The gambling giant Entain has announced that it is expecting a substantial financial penalty due to a UK investigation into alleged bribery in Turkey. In a piece published by Solicitors Journal, Niall examines the problems faced by Entain and the issues that the whole gambling sector has to address.
Niall’s article refers to fines that gambling companies have had to pay for their social responsibility and anti-money laundering failures. He explains the legal reasons why such firms have to ensure they are doing all they can to reduce the risk of money laundering - and what they need to do to achieve this.
Niall details the legal obligations placed on companies by the UK’s Bribery Act and the penalties that can be imposed for failing to meet them. His article also outlines the Gambling Commission’s role in regulating and, when necessary, taking enforcement action against gambling firms.
