The difficulty HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has with tax evasion involving small businesses was examined by Rahman Ravelli.
In a piece published by Lawyer Monthly, Rahman Ravelli details the scale of the problem as well as the National Audit Office’s criticisms of HMRC’s approach and its suggestions about how things should be changed. They also cite points that HMRC could make in its defence.
Rahman Ravelli makes it clear that HMRC must address “what appear to be blind spots in the way it works.’’ They argue that HMRC has “the tools to resolve such cases’’ but must now decide how best to use them.
