Rahman Ravelli have wrote about how the Post Office scandal developed and its impact on private prosecutors.
In this article, which was published by Lexis Nexis, Rahman Ravelli detail how hundreds of sub-postmasters were wrongly prosecuted over allegations of false accounting, theft and fraud that were actually due to faults in the Post Office’s Horizon accounting software system.
Rahman Ravelli outline why the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) did not manage the prosecutions. They say that the case shows that more safeguards may be necessary, particularly regarding whether an organisation such as the Post Office should act as prosecutor when it is also the alleged victim and the investigator.
This piece also considers what private prosecutors can learn from the case and how the government may resolve all the outstanding appeals against conviction.
