With four British overseas territories failing to meet the deadline for introducing measures to tackle dirty money, Rahman Ravelli assessed the situation.
In a piece that was published by Thomson Reuters’ Regulatory Intelligence, they consider the implications of the British Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Anguilla and the Turks and Caicos not introducing registers of company ownership.
Rahman Ravelli details the criticism that has been aimed at the four territories, the difficulties this creates for the UK government and the options available to it.
They emphasise that there are “clear reasons why this is a problem that has to move beyond the talking stage – and soon’’ and adds that the situation raises “huge concerns about the UK’s ability to fight financial crime’’.
