A total of 60 people – including 56 from Britain – have been arrested in raids on the Costa del Sol as part of an investigation into timeshare fraud.
Police have said the fraud may have taken money from about 500 people; mainly British pensioners. They believe it operated through cold calling, with victims persuaded to pay money upfront in so-called administration fees only for deals never to be completed.
A boat, six vehicles and homes valued at £600,000 have been seized and 78 bank accounts frozen. Police in Spain have said that the fraud may have been operating for six years and that those arrested range from the front men and senior figures through to telesales operators.
