Samsung heir and vice chairman Lee Jae-Yong will go on trial for bribery and embezzlement this week.
The 48-year-old was indicted last week on charges that included paying $52.6 million in bribes to gain favours from the South Korean government.
The investigation has led to the impeachment and suspension of South Korea’s President, Park Geun-hye.
Lee Jae-Yong is alleged to have paid money to organisations with links to President Park. Samsung has declined to comment beyond denying wrongdoing. It now needs to review and strengthen its anti-bribery procedures to prevent anything similar ever happening.
