/ News / Syed Rahman assesses the National Crime Agency’s latest attempt to tackle crypto crime
Author: Syedur Rahman 19 January 2023
The National Crime Agency’s plan to create a unit to combat cryptocurrency-related crime was the subject of an article by Syed Rahman.
In his piece, Syed considers the factors that could determine how successful the NCA’s National Cyber Crime Unit Crypto Cell will be.
He says that the NCA’s attempts to take a proactive approach to tackling crypto crime should be welcomed. But he says that much will depend on the training that is given to those working in the Cell. Syed also emphasises the importance of the new organisation being given a sizeable budget, as it is unlikely to achieve much if it is not given sufficient resources.
With a proactive approach requiring a great deal of analysis and strategy and many of the cases likely to be international, he argues the need for the Cell to be properly equipped for the size of the task it faces.
Syed’s article was published by The Times.
