Syed Rahman considers the FCA’s role as supervisor of crypto service providers

With the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) having refused to allow Zeux Ltd to operate as a crypto asset exchange provider in the UK, Lexology sought Syed Rahman’s opinion on the decision.

Syed said that with the FCA having found that the company had failed to conduct effective risk assessments to combat money laundering and other illegal activities, Zeux’s chances of obtaining authorisation were unlikely.

He emphasised that while the regulator wants to support the crypto market, it has to balance this with its responsibility to combat financial crime.
