/ News / Syed Rahman explains that more has to be done to tackle cryptocurrency-related crime
Author: Syedur Rahman 27 May 2022
The need for more concerted action to combat crypto crime was outlined by Syed Rahman.
In an article that was published by Lawyer Monthly, he focuses on the case of Ethereum creator, Virgil Griffith, who has been jailed in the US for sanctions breaches following his dealings with North Korea.
Syed says that the use of crypto in crime was always a possibility, and that Griffith may be just one of many to face prosecution for using such assets as a tool for wrongdoing.
He outlines some of the efforts that have been made in the US to tackle crypto-related crime. But he emphasises that there needs to be a coordinated global response to the problem.
The speed with which cryptocurrency can cross borders, he argues, makes international cooperation essential when it comes to responding to the rise in such crime.
